Valley Times Philosophy Articles: The Philosopher's Corner

Please enjoy this archive of my short articles written for The Valley TimesThe Valley Times is a small, yet rare and exceptional publication which in most unusual fashion in this age of superficial interests and distraction, has seen fit to grant me a forum for my philosophical and more general thoughts and ideas.  The Philosopher's Corner, as my column is known, has been a place where I could do what today is the unthinkable and unimaginable: think, and imagine… what might be.  Today, thought with an eye to the depths, is just as unacceptable and uninviting as it has always been, and it takes a brave and spirited publication to allow what in every other corner of America has become, and perhaps has always been, forbidden and unacceptable: to speak plainly and in an appropriate style of America's unpleasant and real truths…without even a hint of our modern fakery, our "good taste."  The Valley Times has permitted even this abomination: the truth.  How vulgar and splendid is the sight!  I am truly lucky to have found a place at this publication.

Unfortunately, the ownership of the paper was bestowed upon a woman whose grace, editorial competence, personal warmth and beauty were surpassed only by her ethical achievements.  An editor's job is to work with the talent under her leadership, and remove errors from the work placed in her charge.  In this light, the ugly consequences of an editor who thinks nothing of a "broken word," are all too clear.  Unable to maintain a working relationship, all promises were soon revealed as farce, and feigned cooperation gave way to a tide of errors intentionally inserted into my work before publication.  This ugly behavior had its intended effect––and I had no choice but to leave.  Cowardice knows: the easiest way to be rid of the chef, is to spoil his soup––and serve it.  I have included a final piece, Unappreciateditis, which was written as a kind farewell, but was never printed due to the "generous spirit" of the editor in question.  Rest assured, the work in this archive is presented in accordance with the highest standards available: those of the author.

Please note, that in some cases I have added a second version or versions of the article presented, which contain more detail, reference material, and the usual scholarly apparatus associated with academic writing.  For further content, please enjoy my contributions to BlogIQ, The Blog for The Journal of Unconscious Psychology, and the journal itself at:
